Hi folks

Our next cluster meeting will be at Hillcrest Normal School, Cambridge Road, Hamilton at 4.30 on Thursday 11th April.

Haere mai – all welcome.  We will apply our collective minds to planning with anyone who wishes to bring ideas for their next MOTE adventure. We will also take a look at ways to use Heathcote’s role conventions.

These meetings are always a worthwhile and energizing opportunity to gather with other interested teachers and share ideas. Please bring a plate of something to contribute to the afternoon tea. Look forward to seeing you there.

Hi to all Bay of Plenty MOTE enthusiasts – and interested others willing to travel…

Our next Cluster Meeting (‘Planning Meeting’) which Viv will be attending (and running!!) will be held at Tahatai Coast School on Friday 8th February 2013 from 4.30pm for a 5pm start. We hope to hear from those who tried their first MOTE teaching last term, and support others who wish to plan for the term ahead.

Please bring any ideas and plans your are working on – and some nibbles to share –

Social drinks at Rain Bar afterwards!

Looking forward to catching up with everyone.

Cheers

Jon.

Hi all

The next Waikato branch cluster meeting, which was scheduled for this coming Thursday 15th November has been postponed. Watch this space for future announcements on an alternative date.

Also coming soon – further information about the Drama NZ conference 2013 – a professional development opportunity for teachers which includes a range of workshops and presentations on Mantle of the Expert. The conference will take place 26th – 28th April at the University of Waikato. More soon.

A reminder that the next skype discussion for secondary specialists will be held this week – Thursday 25th October (NOT 25th November as previously rumoured!)

Gaenor Stoate will be hosting the call and she has a really interesting idea for the discussion focus. She wants to talk about issues of continuity in the Mantle / drama classroom. That is, how do we as teachers minimise the impact of absenteeism, exclusions and other interruptions within a sustained drama experience….?

I know this has been an issue for several of our experienced secondary mantlers – and I’m sure the beginner teachers amongst us will have ideas to share too.

If you would like to register for this call (which will take approximately one hour) please contact Gaenor by email: gaenor_s@hotmail.com

Hi all

Just a reminder that we have our BOP cluster meeting next week at Maungatapu School (Staff Room) at 4pm.

We will be helping Paula plan a Mantle for next term. She has provided the following information to whet our appetite and to get our thinking hats on –

“I have been thinking Christmas mote. Based around different cultures and how Christmas  is celebrated around the world. The conflicts that arise in the Mote could be presents not being able to be delivered by Santa, problems with Christmas meals, decorations etc.  It fits into our social science focus of different cultures around the world.”

Unfortunately our esteemed leader (Dr. Viv) will be unable to attend, due to a family bereavement she will be out of the country.

I look forward to seeing lots of you there to help plan – I think this will be a great exercise for us all!

Cheers

Jon

The next Waikato Teacher’s Cluster meeting will be held next Thursday 13th – at Hillcrest Normal School, Cambridge Rd, Hamilton at 4pm
Our focus is DRAMA for learning – ideas for bringing drama for learning (multiple perspectives) into your teaching. The focus is not teacher in role, on this occasion, but enhancing opportunities for children’s role taking. This is crucial for Mantle of the Expert but can also enhance teaching and learning anytime.

This will be a hands-on workshop in which a possible planning process will be shared using an example from recent practice.

All welcome!

Thanks to Kineret for posting such a lovely detailed account of our secondary skype chat held last week. We covered a lot of ground didn’t we?!         [To read click here and go to ‘comments’] The next secondary teacher’s skype call will take place on – Thursday, October 25, 7-8pm.

On 16th August 2012 7pm – 8pm we have the next in our regular secondary skype
conversations (for secondary teachers using MOTE).

On the agenda: Role based assessment tools, Ideas for Drama NZ conference, Feedback from UK / Eire conferences.

Please email Viv viva@waikato.ac.nz (or use comment button below) if you wish to be included in the skype conversation or if you have any further ideas for discussion.

The next Bay of Plenty regional cluster meeting will be held on Friday 24th August from 6pm at the University of Waikato, Windermere Campus – Room V125.  Thanks to Barb and Jon for working on the arrangements!

Amongst other things, we will be talking about: Ways to grow MOTE within a school, Role-based Assessment tools and Drama conventions.

One more thing – for this occasion we will be combining with the Tauranga Curriculum Integration Practitioners Support Group meeting.  Many people are members of both groups, so rather than coming out twice in the cold for two events in the winter – we have blended the two meetings into one. The usual CI Practitioners Support Group refreshments will be available from 5.45pm!

Haere Mai – all welcome – if you would like to attend this event, please email Jon Jenner    jmj@compassnet.co.nz
